Everything Ever Has Happened

This month has been busy. I attended my grandmother’s funeral, and the day after that we had a celebration dedicated to her life. The day after that was my mother’s birthday, and so on and so forth. Gaaah!

I think things are finally calming down a bit now, though, this is my last week of work and then I get a couple of weeks off for summer. Since I don’t have work this Friday, I think I’ll dye my hair green again ^_^ I think I’ve basically dyed my hair all colors of the rainbow at this point, but green has been my “signature color” for a few years.

Unrelated to anything else, but yesterday I cosplayed Hong. Is it really a cosplay if the outfit is just your normal clothes? I took a few photos to use as drawing references, which was really fun.

My mirror is so damn dusty... please excuse that.

I decided to do some rough sketches/studies of anatomy. I'm not good at drawing realistic-looking anatomy, but there WAS an attempt. This pose is cute I think.

Plus these that are a bit "risqué" or whatever. Only a select few have seen the actual photos.

Speaking of Hong, a few people have asked me if they are my self-insert since we both act and look similarly (and of course have the same taste in clothing and music and basically everything else^^)… I guess the proper answer could be “yes”, but all of my characters are somewhat self-inserts. I think if an author doesn’t project onto their characters at least somewhat, they’re either oblivious or lying. All of my creations have a little piece of me inside of them, and I think it’s safe to say the same can be said about ALL art. After all, the things we create are extensions of us. I think that makes people uncomfortable, but it’s true.

On a lighter note, today is the 29th anniversary of my favorite-ever album, Sing to God by Cardiacs. Cardiacs have been my most favorite band for quite a few years, and this album in particular really inspired me to create art. If not for this album, I would have never created ‘The Laconic Student’s Dilemma’! And a fun little fact that quite a few of you know, all of my characters (so far) are inspired by songs from this album. If you take the time to listen, I’m sure you can glean which character’s assigned to which song.

The two best songs off the album, in my humble opinion. I couldn't decide which one to put, so I put both. Technically, Sing to God is a double album, for those of you who didn't know. The first song's off the first disc, the second's off the second disc.
