ART JOURNEY

FOREWORD

I have been drawing for quite some time, and I wanted to create this page to chart my progress over the years.

CHAPTER ONE: PREHISTORY PERIOD

As a child, I was very sickly and spent a lot of time in the hospital. One of the many doctors who treated me was an art therapist! She suggested that my parents give me a sketchbook. So they did, and I brought it with me everywhere that I went.
Most of my drawings from this time period were characters from video games that I enjoyed and from movies/TV shows that I watched a lot.

As an elementary schooler, Soul Eater was one of my favorite shows. I still find Ohkubo Atsushi's art very inspiring!

I also really liked the Kirby games. I know I have Earthbound/Mother series fanart from this time period too, but I can't find it.

Also, as you can clearly see, I had mastered the 'Studio Ghibli' style at the mere age of seven years old. (joke)

GREATEST INSPIRATIONS: Takeuchi Naoko, Ikumi Mia (R.I.P.), Nintendo games in general

CHAPTER TWO: ANCIENT HISTORY PERIOD

As I got older, I began to take drawing more seriously. In middle school, I had wanted to become an animator.
My dreams were dashed, however, as I found digital art (and animation) quite daunting. Most of my art during this time was done in school. I was a terrible student and always doodled all over my notebooks instead of paying attention to my teachers.

This character was a sort-of 'persona'. The short hair and braces are indicative of a 13-year old A. Mouse!

When I was in ninth grade, the Petscop series was brand-new. My friends & I would spend a lot of time theorizing about what each episode meant. It still holds a special place in my heart, even after all these years.

GREATEST INSPIRATIONS: Jamie Hewlett, Alex Hirsch, Random artists on DeviantArt

CHAPTER THREE: EARLY MODERN PERIOD

At this point, I was in high school and didn't really care about art as much. I started getting really sick again, and wasn't able to draw very much (or do anything at all, really).
In my senior year of high school, I bought a laptop and dug up my old Wacom tablet from 2014 and began to draw digitally. During this time, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and I spent my days re-learning the basics of art after having not drawn anything for so long.
Eventually, I had begun to create my own original characters. Even though I haven't drawn them in years, they are still precious to me!

I was quite proud of this character at the time. Her name is Wednesday, and she was actually the original mascot of this website! You can still find traces of her if you look hard enough...

Another one of my characters from this era. This one was named Sundae, and I honestly can't remember much about them except for the fact that they were made out of ice cream.

GREATEST INSPIRATIONS: No clue, I literally remember nothing from this time period^^

CHAPTER FOUR: MODERN PERIOD

And now we get into the current year. This is art that is more recent.
In March of 2024, I had developed some new characters and a concept for a comic. This comic ended up becoming the basis of my website! If you haven't guessed by now, I'm talking about 'The Laconic Student's Dilemma'.
I... admittedly have not drawn much else besides my OCs in quite some time. I'd like to get back into drawing fanart again soon, though!

Hong's appearance has changed slightly since the first volume of the comic... I was still getting used to drawing them. Drawing characters consistently has always been challenging for me for whatever reason.

Some images from the yesteryears of this website. Hong with eyelashes - imagine that!

And finally, a rare piece of fanart. Of course, it's something Touhou related because I love Touhou.

GREATEST INSPIRATIONS: Sally Cruikshank, Vince Collins, Tezuka Osamu

AFTERWORD

My art has changed and grown over the years. I always find it very nostalgic to look back at things I've made in the past.
I like seeing how far I've come after all these years.
